“Oh, I guess it right now…”
She explained that he
wanted to buy 25 books from Pustaka Obor. He will arrive in Sukarno Hatta
Airport, Jakarta at 01.10 PM and I should be ready at that time. I asked Mrs.
Lia, “His name?”
“Ross Gordon…”
He researched many years about marine biology in Batuley, one
of islands in Moluccas. He compiled his data about the sea organisms around of
Batuley in one book, like encyclopedia. Its book contains many kinds of fish,
shell, coral reef, squid, marine worm, octopus, seaweed, sea urchin, crab,
shrimp, sea cucumber, and also it describes about fishing equipments. Actually,
he didn’t work alone, he had a partner, his name was Sonny A. Djonler. I think
there are a few researchers who want to research carefully every type in a
variety of organisms in the Sea. The truth is that Indonesia is a wonderful
place with many interesting things such as the sea organisms. Moreover my
country has thousands of islands, there are many natural resources that saved
in the seas, beaches, mountains and other’s places. For me, Indonesia is like a
heaven. However, Indonesian people don’t make use of it or concern about it as
it should be deserved, many researches are not from us, but they come from
aboard, like Netherland, German, France, and others. It is terrible, I think,
we don’t know more about it due to lack of knowledge. When would we change?
In short,
I looked at my calendar, 09 October 2016, so I rushed to
finish my activity and preparing to meet Ross Gordon. My colleague, Waluyo,
drove the motor cycle and brought me at DAMRI (one of transportation to
Airport). I arrived at the Airport at 12.00 PM, and waited for him.
I got a short massage from him at 01.10 AM, “Just waiting for
luggage now…” I replied it, “I am in Gate 1, sitting near Gateway.” But after
several minutes, I hadn’t seen him. So, I tried searching on internet about
Ross Gordon, the name is like woman, and the Google showed many woman photos.
Actually, I guessed like that. I looked an old woman, I moved closely to her,
“Excuse me, are you Mrs. Ross Gordon” She just said, “No…” I felt so shy,
“Sorry madam…”
I sent SMS to him again, “Please tell me, where are you” and
not long after that, my smart phone rang. I accepted it.
“Hello Irfan… I am
waiting outside the terminal now by the smoking area”
And finally, I saw
him.
“Okey Sir, I see you…”
Eventually, Ross Gordon was good-looking and still young. I
greeted him with big smile and it was a good chance to practice my English
skill. I talked with him in few minutes, but I thought it was enough. I said
goodbye to him, hopefully to meet him again. What a wonderful weekend.
